Bangi, 28 June: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Yakin IT Sdn. Bhd. signed a Letter of Cooperation (LoC) to establish partnership and cooperation between both institutions in areas of mutual interest.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang said, various potential areas of cooperation between Yakin IT and UTM were identified with UTM providing expert advice in related areas of cooperation.
He said, among the cooperation established is authentication solution for birds’ nests where Yakin IT contributes an information solution that uses traceability information to determine the genuineness of a bird nest, while UTM contributes sample-based authentication solutions that determine with certainty the origin of a bird nest.
Also included is cooperation in the area of Halal authenticity where Yakin IT contributes an information solution that uses traceability information to determine adherence to Halal standard(s) while UTM contributes sample-based methods to determine Halal relevant parameters.
“Cooperation in the area of transformation management was also established where Yakin IT contributes information management solutions for the management of transformational projects while UTM delivers the transformation methodologies, procedures and processes and certain standard to assess ideas and projects.
“Another significant input by UTM is in wireless communications, specifically in (a) animal identification and life cycle management, (b) sensor networks and internet access in remote areas and (c) RFID-enabled Halal logistics,” he said.
Both parties may enter into separate LoCs, as necessary, to facilitate the said collaborative activities. Under this LoC, collaborative activities of both will be undertaken within the limits of available resources of both parties.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 4: - Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) will take a first batch of students to commence studies starting September this year. UTM Vice-Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Zaini Ujang said, MJIIT operating in UTM International Campus in Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur will offer degree courses in Mechanical Precision Engineering and Electronic Systems Engineering. About 40 students will be taken for undergraduate courses in Mechanical Precision Engineering and 50 for Electronic Systems Engineering. The Institute was established in collaboration with the government of Japan and Malaysia will allocate places for 60 percent of local students and 40 percent of international students. MJIIT also offers full-time courses by research at Masters Degree and Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD). The duration of study for undergraduate courses is between four to six years while postgraduate studies by research are between one and a half years to three years. For PhD, study period is between three to six years. The MJIIT is a large-scale project worth RM793 million over duration of seven years starting 2011 to ensure that local universities can take advantage of Japan’s technological expertise through innovative academic programmes. Most of the academic staffs are local faculty members including Professors from 19 leading universities in Japan who will be placed in MJIIT. The uniqueness of studying at MJIIT is studies conducted in the Japanese education system with English as medium of instruction. In addition, students have the opportunity to gain work experience in accordance with Japanese culture because MJIIT have a close relationship with universities and industries in Japan. Selected undergraduate students have the opportunity to do part of the practical training or attending some of their lectures in Japan to do some of the practical training or attending some of their lectures in Japan, which is fully sponsored by MJIIT beside run the industry-based project in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Local students’ entry requirements are same as a requirement for entry into public universities. Applicants must pass the college Matriculation or Sijil Tiinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) or equivalent. Applications to study in MJIIT are made through the University Management Unit (UPU) under the Ministry of Higher Education meanwhile foreign students can apply directly through the internet. |
